KC Aviation Expo Presented by
Mid-America Youth Aviation Association
at the Kansas City Wheeler Downtown Airport

Has been CANCELED for 2010

February 4, 2010 – Kansas City, Missouri - The Mid-America Youth Aviation Association (MAYAA), producer of the annual Kansas City Aviation Expo, announced the cancellation of the 2010 Kansas City Air Show.

Scheduling conflicts with the major jet teams such as the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels will prevent the Airshow from featuring such performers – which is one of the largest draws for attendees. In addition, the Wheeler Downtown Airport will undergo scheduled construction on its runway, which will limit the length needed for the larger aircraft featured in the show.

“While we’re disappointed there will not be an Airshow in Kansas City this year, we have our eyes on 2011 and are already gearing up to make that a great show,” said Ed Noyallis, director of the Kansas City Airshow. “Even though the show is cancelled this year, MAYAA’s mission is ever-present and we hope Kansas City will continue to support us through events like the Youth Aviation Adventure Day.”

MAYAA’s mission is to bring together youth and aviation professionals to inspire young people to pursue careers in science and aviation. MAYAA annually awards students and a teacher with scholarships to attend Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, as well as college scholarships for those seeking degrees in aviation-related programs.

One of MAYAA’s signature events, Youth Aviation Adventure Day, is scheduled for August 7, 2010. Children will have the opportunity to receive hands-on aviation instruction by riding on an airplane, talking with pilots, aviation games and other activities. In addition, scouts can get aviation merit badges. The event is free and open to all children.
