The CAF Red Tail Squadron presents a single ship P-51C Mustang demo. This demo is special because the squadron’s P-51C is one of only four that are still operational today. This aircraft is named “By Request” after Colonel B.O. Davis’ aircraft. Colonel Davis’ aircraft received this nickname because during the WWII, white military pilots would specifically request the Tuskgee Airmen as their escorts due to their proven excellence. The P-51C’s distinct colors represent the four fighter squadrons in the 332nd group. This single seat, long range escort fighter weighs in at over 12,000 pounds and can travel up to 505 miles per hour! Get a little taste of history this summer at the Kansas City Air Show. |
